Ohio Explorer

Kentucky to Niagara Falls
EASY BIKING      14 DAYS
Trip #OEX

Easy biking mostly on beautiful bike paths.

This trip starts in America's heartland, on the Ohio River in Newport, Kentucky. You will cycle from Cincinnati up across the beautiful Buckeye State, through its rolling countryside. Ohio is full of orchards, so an afternoon break might be at a farm stand for fresh fruit and local produce for that night's supper. Along the way, your group will stay at campgrounds and hostels, living simply and enjoying the fresh local foods.

You will cycle on the BikeCentennial routes, along their “Underground Railroad” trek. Leading you along new bike trails that follow old rail lines or canals, these offer easy, level stretches as well as moderate but long rises to flex those muscles!

The Lake Ontario segment brings welcome lake breezes to keep you comfortable as you ride and opportunities to swim or just enjoy a beautiful view. Your group will average 25-30 miles a day, with chances to stop for sightseeing as well. The trip ends with a day of relaxation in spectacular Niagara Falls, to celebrate your great accomplishment.

When we came to a town that was interesting, we’d take a longer lunch time, and explore. When we’d see a pretty spot we’d stop and take a group picture. When we’d see a good beach, we would swim. The trip was run by what we opted to do, and that’s what made it perfect. Many camps treat you like a little kid, trapped in what the adults want you to do, but the SHP people make it possible for you to choose, but still stay safe and within reason!

I wouldn’t trade this summer for anything, it was the best of my life! If I were to sum up my SHP trip, I would have to say that I learned the most in these two weeks then anytime else in my life.
